How it works

The WaterWatch band, showing the strap and sensor housing

Your child wears the band

Light, fully waterproof, with a strap designed to resist small hands.

Water triggers it

The moment the band hits water it signals the hub directly over radio, no Wi-Fi involved.

You hear it and you see it

The hub's siren sounds and your phone lights up, anywhere in the house.

Two kinds of alert

Water is not the only thing worth knowing about.

Water

The band goes in

The moment the band hits water, the hub sounds a continuous siren and your phone lights up.

Range

The band goes too far

If a band moves out of range of the hub, you get a different sound and a different notification.

Hear the range alert

What happens
without Wi-Fi.

The band and hub talk to each other directly, so the alarm still sounds even if your internet goes down. Wi-Fi is only used to send the alert to your phone.

If the hub loses power or drops off Wi-Fi, the app tells you remote alerts are down and to go check the hub. You are never left assuming it is working.

Internet down: the siren still sounds. The app warns you that phone alerts are off until it is back.

Placement
and range.

Line of sight, the band reaches the hub at 200 feet and beyond. Walls, brick and metal all cut that down, so the number that matters is the one you measure in your own space.

Put the hub where you can hear the siren from where you normally are, with as clear a path to the water as you can manage.

Walk it out before you rely on it. Trigger the band at the far edge of where your child actually swims, in the spot the hub will actually live.

What's in the box

  • The band. Rechargeable, fully waterproof, and light enough to forget about.
  • The hub. Sits by the water with a built-in siren, and listens for the band directly.
  • Power adapter. The hub has its own battery, but it's meant to live plugged in. The battery is there for power cuts, or for somewhere without a socket, a lake, a campsite.
  • Setup guide. A short printed card with the same steps as the setup guide online.

Specifications

Battery life
Band: about an hour to charge, around two days per charge in normal use. Hub: mains powered with a built-in battery for power cuts and off-grid use.
If a band battery dies
The band stops detecting water, so it stops protecting. The app warns you when a band is low and again when it is critical, and the band itself pulses orange then dim red. Charge it before the next swim.
Range
Line of sight, 200 feet and beyond. Walls, brick and metal reduce it, so test it where you will actually use it.
Bands per hub
Up to four.
Waterproof rating
The band is fully waterproof for submersion. The hub is not, keep it under cover and out of the water.
Dimensions
Band sized for children roughly one to eight. Hub sits flat on a table or ledge.
Charging
Via the supplied cable. No disposable batteries and no replacement parts.
App
Free on iPhone and Android.
Phones per hub
No limit. Each phone pairs separately through the app.
If the hub loses power or Wi-Fi
The app tells you remote alerts are down and to check the hub. The siren still works locally as long as the hub has power.

What it is and isn't for.

It is built for a household. A home pool, a lake, a river, a dock, a hot tub, any water your family is actually around.

What it is not built for is institutions. Swim schools, daycares and shared apartment pools involve more children and more water than one hub is meant to cover.

It is a final layer, meant to sit alongside fences, lessons and supervision rather than replace any of them.

Baths, sinks and sprinklers.

The band is meant to stay on. It cannot tell a bath from a pool, so ordinary indoor water will set it off.

That is worth knowing rather than worth working around. A band that ignored some water would have to decide which water counts, and that is not a decision a safety device should be making.

If one goes off, check your child first, always. Then hold the button on the hub for three seconds to silence it and carry on. A few seconds, not a problem.

If one keeps going off when it should not, the troubleshooting guide walks through it.
